Bhubaneswar: The Nayapalli Durga Puja Committee, renowned for its grand and creative celebrations, has once again enthralled the City with a spectacular pandal inspired by Kerala’s classical dance form Kathakali.

Towering 75 feet high and stretching 110 feet wide, the structure brings alive the vibrant colours, dramatic expressions, and intricate artistry associated with this centuries-old performing art.

Every corner of the pandal reflects the elegance of Kathakali, from the elaborate facial motifs and traditional masks to the ornate backdrops reminiscent of Kerala’s cultural heritage, offering visitors a visual journey into the rich traditions of India’s southern state while celebrating the spirit of Durga Puja.

Kathakali, famous for its dazzling costumes, intricate facial makeup, and powerful, expressive gestures, has been beautifully woven into the pandal’s design to celebrate the grandeur of Kerala’s cultural heritage.

“Our aim this year is to showcase the cultural diversity of India, and Kathakali perfectly embodies the artistic splendour and storytelling tradition of Kerala,” said committee member Nabakishore Behera, adding that every detail has been crafted to transport visitors into the heart of this centuries-old dance drama.

The Nayapalli Puja Committee has earned acclaim over the years for selecting themes that are both socially meaningful and culturally enriching.

In earlier editions, the pandal celebrated causes such as women’s empowerment and showcased the intricate beauty of traditional terracotta art, each drawing praise from devotees and art enthusiasts alike for its thoughtful execution.

Carrying forward this legacy, this year’s Kathakali theme reinforces the committee’s commitment to blending artistic innovation with cultural depth, offering visitors not just a festive spectacle but also an immersive glimpse into one of India’s most treasured classical traditions.

To ensure a smooth and secure experience for the massive footfall expected during the festivities, the organisers have put in place extensive safety and crowd-management measures.

Nearly 300 security personnel and volunteers, including 100 women, will be stationed across the pandal premises to guide visitors and handle emergencies.

The entire area will be under constant surveillance with 50 CCTV cameras monitoring movements round the clock.

Anticipating heavy traffic during the Puja days, the committee has also identified multiple nearby locations to serve as designated parking zones, helping ease congestion and allowing devotees to visit the pandal without inconvenience.

Combining breathtaking artistry with careful planning, the Nayapalli Durga Puja pandal is poised to be one of Bhubaneswar’s most captivating highlights this festive season.
