New VC for Fakir Mohan Varsity

Bhubaneswar, July 24: Governor SC Jamir has appointed Madhumita Das as the new vicechancellor of Fakir Mohan University, Balasore for three years. She was earlier continuing as a professor in Geology in Utkal University.
She joined Utkal University as a lecturer in Geology in 1980. Later, she worked as a Reader in 1995 and continued as a Professor there since 2003. Das, an academician and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) fellow, has authored three books and has 120 research publications in national and international journals. She has 37 years of teaching experience. She will replace Professor Siba Prasad Adhikary as the VC. Das will join as VC in the first week of August. Das told Orissa Post that she wants to introduce vocational and skill-based courses that can create job opportunities among the students. “Only university based course subjects are not enough to help students to get better jobs. We need to introduce vocational courses for them,” she said. She has the desire to accomplish all the incomplete projects of the varsity. “Before I take any further initiative for the development of the university, I will try to complete all the incomplete works first,” she added. She was Students’ Union advisor, director of School of Women Studies. Das also wants to promote Oriya language in the university. “As Balasore is the city of Fakir Mohan Senapati, I like to promote Oriya in the university during my period.” She also wants to open research center. She is an expert in the research domains, including Igneous Petrology, Industrial Minerals and Environmental Geology.
