Morada: A newborn baby girl was rescued Saturday after being found abandoned in bushes behind the residence of the local ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) in Mayurbhanj district.
The infant was discovered in Jhinkiria village under Morada block after her cries were heard from behind the house of ASHA worker Sabitrimani Jena. According to reports, an unidentified person had left the baby in the shrubbery and fled.
Jena’s niece first heard the cries and alerted her mother. On reaching the spot, they found the newborn lying inside thick bushes. Jena immediately provided primary medical care before shifting the baby to the Kisantandi Community Health Centre by ambulance. Later, Supervisor Subhashree Dalai reached the hospital and ensured proper medical treatment for the infant.
Doctors found mud on the baby’s face and body, along with injuries in several parts. Officials said the person who abandoned the child appeared to have deliberately left her near the ASHA’s residence, suggesting prior knowledge of the household. After receiving treatment, the baby was reported to be in stable condition. She weighs 2.345 kg, hospital sources said.
