Anandapur, Jan 23: Scores of people Friday blocked national highway-215 for about one hour at Barigan, demanding rail connectivity to Anandapur and a Kendriya Vidyalaya.
A large number of vehicles remained stranded on the route. Several activists led by Bishnu Prasad Barik, the president of Maa Dhanei Seva Sangh, a local outfit, staged an agitation. The protesters alleged that Anandpur town has not seen any visible development in all sectors even 68 years after Independence. They said that they had staged a demonstration outside the sub-collector’s office November 10 last year and formed a human chain on NH-215. Despite their agitation, the district administration has not taken any initiative to meet their demands, they lamented.
They accused the district administration of not been keen on taking up the matter with the state government and the Central government. Friday, police rushed to the spot and tried to convince the agitating people. Later, they withdrew the blockade, but threatened that the agitation will be intensified if their demands are not met.
