Bhubaneswar: Even though the state government is spending huge amounts of money on night patrolling in order to ensure safety and security of the citizens here, an on-duty cop was caught watching porn instead of keeping tabs on anti-social elements Saturday night.
According to sources, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Mancheswar police station has developed a habit of watching obscene movies during night patrolling. Some of his colleagues caught the police officer watching porn on his cell phone while sitting on the vehicle around 10:30pm Saturday.
Dismayed over the act of a senior cop, three home guards sitting in the patrolling vehicle objected to it. They told the ASI who would keep tabs on the anti-social elements if he is glued to his cell phone. However, the ASI paid no heed to their concern and kept watching the obscene video. When one of the home guards objected to the misdemeanour of the senior cop, the latter allegedly verbally abused him by terming him as a low grade worker of the department. The home guard also alleged that the ASI even tried to beat him up.
Sources said there was heated exchange between the two for some time following which the home guard told the erring police official to disclose the matter before the higher-ups. The ASI then made a sincere request to the home guard not to reveal the issue before anybody. All the home guards alleged that this was the regular habit of the ASI concerned.
