Koraput: The Brahmin community of Kundura block in Koraput district has taken chicken dishes off the menu of wedding feasts.
During a meeting at Laxmi Narayan temple in Dangarpaunsi panchayat, the newly formed Block Brahmin Samaj has also decided to boycott the buffet system from wedding receptions.
The meeting, presided by Radhanath Bhatt, was attended by 400 people belonging to the Brahmin community from Kundura, Dangarpaunsi, Banuaguda, Digapur, Udalaguda and Lima panchayats.
If a person from the Brahmin body dies, a financial assistance will be provided to the deceased’s family members after a collection from its members, according to Brahmin Samaj.
If anybody violates the rules made by the Brahmin body, strict action will be taken against them, it said.
It also directed its members to conduct ‘sacred thread ceremony’ of their children in groups by following the rituals and customs.
Patitapaban Acharya, Soubhendra Kumar Bhatt, Shyam Sundar Tripathy, Chandrasekhar Rath, Bikash Satpathy and Sujit Satpathy were also present at the meeting.
