Baripada: Women staged protests outside the office of the superintending engineer of Nesco here as pump houses for drinking water projects have not been commissioned due to lack of electricity.
Pumps houses were set up in five wards a year ago, but electricity has not been supplied to them. As a result, over 10,000 people have been facing a lot of problems in availing water.
They warned of an agitation if no step is taken to make the pump houses functional. Drinking water crisis is set to worsen in several wards in the summer.
Executive engineer of Nesco, Siddhartha Shankar Ray, said the PHED has submitted the related file to the department five days ago. The delay in forwarding the file has delayed the electricity supply to the pump houses, he explained.
