Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: There will be no respite from the prevailing cold wave situation in state as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts no change in the weather condition in state till January 15.
“Though a low pressure area has been formed, it will not have any impact on the cold wave prevailing in state now. There may be wind flow, but it will not affect the temperature,” said director of Bhubaneswar Met Centre Sarat Sahu here Sunday.
The low pressure area was formed over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman sea and also there is cyclonic circulation extending up to 4.5 km above mean sea level, he said.
Weather very likely to be dry over the state, he said, adding, fog is also likely to occur in some places in coastal and south Orissa during next three days.
According to Met as many as 13 places in the state recorded temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. State’s lowest temperature of 3 degrees Celsius was recorded at Daringibadi, while it was 4.5 degrees at its district headquarters town Phulbani, 7 degrees at Sundergarh and 7.8 degrees at Jharsuguda.
The other places that recorded below 10 degrees are-Bhawanipata (8 degrees), Hirakud and Keonjhar (8.2 degrees), Angul and Sambalpur (8.5 degrees), Baripada (9.4 degrees), Sonepur and Koraput (9.5 degrees) and Bolangir (9.6 degrees), the Met said.
Similarly, coal town Talcher recorded 10 degrees Sunday, whereas it was 10.5 degrees at Balsore and 11 degrees each at Dhenkanal and Titlagarh. Capital city Bhubaneswar and neighbouring town Cuttack recorded a minimum temperature of 13 and 12 degrees Celsius respectively, the IMD said. (PNN)
