Bhubaneswar: The state government has sanctioned an additional 4,849 dwellings for the poor in 20 civic bodies under Odisha Urban Housing Mission (OUHM).
State Level Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee headed by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi approved these houses at a meeting held Monday at the Secretariat here.
Padhi directed the officials of Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department to expedite the process of the issue of work orders. The officials were also instructed to intensify follow-up action and monitoring at ground level for early completion of the sanctioned houses. He asked the officials to complete at least 38,000 dwelling units within the coming six months.
OUHM Director Suresh Chandra Dalai said a total number of 23 Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) received from 20 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have been sanctioned at the meeting.
A total of 4,849 houses would be built under these projects at a cost of around `14,588 crore, he said.
With this additional sanction, the total number of houses sanctioned under OUHM has increased to 59,121 in 110 ULBs, of which, work orders for 38,000 houses have been issued while 2,376 units have been completed.
Construction of the remaining houses is under progress. The left out three ULBs have been asked to send the DPRs quickly. Dalai said that those ULBs would be involved in the scheme as and when they send the DPRs.
According to official sources, these are beneficiary-led houses. Which means the houses will be built by beneficiaries themselves. On an average, a dwelling unit of around 21 to 30 sq mt has been estimated to cost around `3 lakh. Out of this, the beneficiary will get a financial assistance of around `2 lakh from the government and the remaining will be borne by the beneficiary.
