Nurse attacked at Balasore hospital

Balasore: Balasore district headquarters hospital was back in news again for wrong reason Friday. Taking bribe from an expectant mother has caused a row on the DHH premises. Angry people attacked a nurse and left her wounded. The nurse was in ICU.

Nurses have resorted to a cease work for some time, but police and the hospital authorities settled the matter.

Reports said, Pramila Mohanty of Singhapur under Soro police limits, was admitted to the hospital Thursday night. She delivered a baby girl in the wee hours Friday.

Rina Hati, a nurse working in the OT of the delivery ward, demanded Rs 1000 from the woman after delivery. She told the patient that Rs 1000 will be given to the doctor who conducted delivery.

However, family members of Pramila handed out Rs 300 to the nurse.

It was alleged that instead of receiving the money, the nurse misbehaved and abused the kin of the patient.

This led to heated arguments between the two sides. As the matter became public, a group of 10 women dragged the nurse out of the OT and attacked her. Police rescued her.

Protesting the attack, nurses ceased work for two hours. Such incident has come to the fore amid repeated complaints about bribe in the hospital for healthcare.

CDMO Dr RanjanPadhi said that the matter is being probed and action will be taken against the staff if found guilty.
