Jagatsinghpur: Even two days after recovering the body of 24 years old nurse Niharika Patra alias Rupali from the Biluakhai riverbed near Nuapari village of Kulakaijanga panchayat under Biridi police limits in Jagatsinghpur district, police are still groping in the dark to crack the case.
However, the police have zeroed in on Kishore Chandra Anchal, the deceased’s lover who has gone missing since Niharika’s body was recovered.
Meanwhile another problem has cropped up. The cops are yet to be sure that the recovered body is that of Niharika or not.
“Tuesday morning, the body was found with hands and legs tied in a gunny sack from the riverbed. The face was damaged beyond recognition. Niharika’s father Gagan Patra and mother Pratima Patra, residents of Bhingarpur village under Balianta police limits in Khurda district, had identified the body as that of their daughter’s, from the dress, body construction and a cotton band tied around her left wrist. But their claim is not just enough to assume that the body was of Niharika. In order to reach at a conclusion, a DNA test would be conducted,” informed sub divisional police officer, Jagatsinghpur, Prakash Chandra Pal.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem was done at FMT department of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Body samples have also been collected for DNA test.
The deceased’s family sources said that Niharika’s marriage with Kishore had already been fixed. But the marriage had been getting delayed because Kishore’s family does not have the required number of houses. The families had decided to solemnize the marriage after completion of two rooms. Meanwhile the roof has been cast. At this stage, the death of Niharika has made the case a mystery.
Police sources said that their suspecting eyes have rest on Kishore for Niharika was last seen with him.
Kishore had taken Niharika from the Cuttack based nursing home where she worked with him September 8. Later, she never returned to the nursing home, forcing the nursing home authority to lodge a complaint with Madhupatna police station.
Meanwhile, police have interrogated six persons including Kishore’s father, mother and brother.
