OAS officer gets 3-year jail term in bribery case

Bhubaneswar/Baragada: An Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer was sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment by a Special Vigilance Court in Baragada Thursday in a bribery case. The convict, Govinda Dandasena, a former additional tehsildar of Bijepur in Baragada district and currently Executive Officer of Rajgangpur Municipality in Sundaragada, was prosecuted by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting a bribe from a landowner to process a land mutation case.

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Baragada found Dandasena guilty under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and sentenced him to three years’ rigorous imprisonment besides a fine. Following his conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority for dismissal of Dandasena from government service, officials said. The case pertains to the demand and acceptance of illegal gratification by Dandasena while he was serving as additional tehsildar at Bijepur in connection with processing the mutation records of the complainant’s land.
