Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has sent 814 notices to several buildings in 2026 for violations of fire safety norms.

The notices included 258 residential buildings, 110 educational institutions, 114 other establishments, 34 assembly halls, 68 commercial establishments, 32 business establishments, 63 industrial units, 16 storage buildings, 26 hazardous buildings, 13 group-occupancy buildings and 172 hotels.

Odisha Fire and Emergency Services will launch a month-long special campaign from September 15 to October 15 to prevent fires and improve compliance with fire safety regulations across the state.

The campaign comes amid a rise in major fire incidents in recent years, with the lack of adequate fire safety measures at several establishments identified as a major concern.

The department will inspect buildings and institutions, conduct safety audits and create public awareness about fire prevention and safety measures.

As part of the campaign, the department will conduct rapid safety audits and organise awareness exhibitions, camps, workshops and demonstrations.

A software system and database containing details of all buildings and establishments requiring fire safety certificates, along with their compliance status, will also be developed.

The department will promote awareness about the ‘Agnisathi’ AI chatbot and the Fire Services portal, including information on how to obtain fire safety certificates.
