Bhubaneswar: ASHA workers across Odisha staged protests Tuesday, seeking recognition as government employees, a minimum monthly salary of Rs 28,000 and a pension of Rs 10,000 after retirement, along with better working conditions.
Hundreds of workers from various districts gathered at Lower PMG Square in Bhubaneswar under the banner of the Odisha Milita ASHA Union, affiliated with AIUTUC. Similar demonstrations were reported in other parts of the state as the workers pressed for the fulfilment of their long-pending demands.

The protesters also called for a fixed eight-hour workday and additional payments for duties beyond regular working hours. They also demanded timely monthly salary payments, arguing that the existing incentive-based compensation system should be replaced with a fixed salary.
Other demands included formal recognition of their work through government employee status and improved service conditions.
