Brahmapur: A 42-year-old man died of electrocution after he came in contact with a live wire, suspected to have been laid for poaching wild animals in Odisha’s Ganjam district Tuesday, officials said.
The incident occurred at Pratapagiri village under Patapur police station limits in the district. The deceased was identified as Mehenkal Nayak, a resident of the same village, police said.
According to the police, the deceased, along with some others, was going to their farm fields late at night to protect the crops from wild animals, especially wild boars, when he was entangled in a live wire.
With severe injuries, he was referred to the nearby hospital at Adapada, where the doctors declared him dead, they said.
The body was handed over to the family members after post-mortem at MKCG Medical College here, a police officer said.
The electric wire, GI wire, bamboo, and glass bottles used to lay the wire on the field to kill wild animals were seized from the spot, said Dipti Ranjan Behera, inspector-in-charge (IIC), Patapur police station.
