Odisha bank deposits up 14% at Rs 2.62 lakh crore

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27: The bank deposits in the state till September 30, 2017 have registered a growth of 14 per cent when compared with the same period last fiscal, a SLBC official told Orissa POST.

“As September 30 the total deposits in banks in Odisha have reached Rs 2,62,576.22 crore while the deposits till June were at Rs 2,19,482.54 crore,” the official said.

The state has seen total advanced utilisation of Rs 1.81 lakh crore whereas the advanced sanctioned and utilised figure for the state is Rs 1.35 lakh crore.

The total business by banks in the state as September 30 has reached Rs 4,43,360.56 crore, the official said, quoting figures from 149th proceedings of the SLBC. The total business of banks over the same period last fiscal were at Rs 3,98,787.88 crore.

The credit to deposit ratio of banks stood at 68.84 per cent while the ratio was 72.45 per cent in the same period last fiscal.

“The credit to deposit ratio excluding advance sanctioned in other states and utilised in Odisha is around 51.35 per cent till September 30 as against 50.31 per cent last fiscal.”

Segregating the CD ratio of banks, the official said, “The CD ratio of rural branches is 65.44 per cent, semi urban branches at 49.73 per cent and urban branches at 44.74 per cent.”

On priority lending of banks, the official said the total priority sector advances as on September 30 is at Rs 93,232.50 crore. The agriculture figure stood at Rs 43,624.80 crore while for MSME it was Rs 32,899.45 crore.

The priority lending in the state has seen a rise of 24 per cent over the same period last fiscal.

The total non performing assets (NPA) of banks in the state stood at 11.66 per cent till second quarter. However, the NPAs of public sector banks in Odisha remained higher at 15.18 per cent.

The public sector banks with higher NPAs to total advances are Punjab National Bank at 40.60 per cent, followed by Indian Overseas Bank (29.55 per cent) and Bank of Baroda (27.93 per cent).

“Federal Bank tops the list of private sector banks with its NPA at 2.54 per cent, Induslnd Bank at 1.51 per cent and HDFC at 1.16 per cent,” the official added.

The NPA level of regional rural banks stood at 26.15 per cent. The total NPA figure for commercial banks is at 10.96 per cent while for co-operative banks it is 6.05 per cent.

Meanwhile, the banks have already achieved 41.60 per cent of the Annual Credit Plan for this fiscal.

The state has 5,035 branches, out of which 2,751 branches are in rural areas, 1,313 branches in semi urban areas and 971 in urban areas.

On the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), the official said 47,766 villages are covered under PMJDY.

“The banks in the state were able to open 126.69 lakh accounts with 88.75 accounts in rural areas and 37.94 in urban areas,” the official added.

Out of the total accounts opened under PMJDY, 27.36 lakh accounts are zero balance accounts.

“Total deposits in the PMJDY accounts as September 30 is at Rs 2,96,232.22 lakh. A total of 69.12 lakh RuPay cards are activated out of 92.03 lakh cards issued,” he added. (PNN)
