Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has alerted the district collectors of coastal and Southern Odisha to be prepared for rescue and rehabilitation measures as several parts of these districts have received heavy rainfall due to low pressure in Bay of Bengal.
On the other hand regional department of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Monday evening issued yellow warning for the districts like Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Sonepur.
The department also said, “A fresh low-pressure area is very likely to form over north Andaman sea, adjoining the east-central Bay of Bengal around October 9. It is very likely to move north-westwards towards north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast with gradual intensification into a depression during the subsequent two- three days”.

In a communication to the collectors of several districts, the Special Relief Commission, Odisha cautioned the districts facing heavy rainfall threat to keep the official machineries up and running to tackle any rain related disasters such as floods, landslides arising out of severe rains.
The District Collectors under orange (be prepared)/ yellow (be updated) warning are requested to keep the administrative machinery fully prepared to meet any possible flood/ water-logging issue that may arise in the event of intense rainfall. All the districts are to operate round-the-clock and update the situation from time to time.
Notably, the existing low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal with associated cyclonic circulation that now extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards, the weather office said.
