Baripada: A POCSO court in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district Tuesday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for kidnapping and raping a girl in October last year.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict Ashok Kumar Raul, alias Babula (30). If he fails to pay the fine, the convict will remain in jail for another year, the court ordered, said special public prosecutor PK Behera.
The court directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mayurbhanj, to pay Rs 3 lakh compensation to the victim.
Babula kidnapped the victim on the evening of October 19, 2025, held her captive and repeatedly raped her.
Following a written complaint lodged by the victim’s father at the Karanjia police station, the police registered a case, rescued the victim, and arrested Babula.
