Odisha: Finance firm agent kills man over EMI default

Jeypore: A man was allegedly killed by the agent of a private finance firm after he failed to repay the installment of the loan he incurred to buy a car in Koraput district, police said Monday.

The deceased was identified as Bipin Bahadur, 42, a resident of Veterinary Colony in Jeypore town. The accused was identified as Pratyush Das, an agent of a private finance firm.

After being attacked by Pratyush, a critically injured Bipin was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Vishakhapatnam where he succumbed, Monday.

On being informed, police reached the spot and launched an investigation, IIC Satyananda Patra said. Police registered a case on the basis of a complaint filed by Bipin’s brother Jakhsya Bahadur.

Three police teams have launched a manhunt to nab Pratyush.

Police said Bipin had bought a Maruti Alto car on EMI through the finance firm. However, he failed to deposit two installments. Pratyush waylaid Bipin at Mahadev stockyard when the latter was on his way to attend duty, August 12, 2023. There Pratyush attacked Bipin with a knife.
