Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government Wednesday increased the compensation amount from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh for fatalities caused because of conflicts between humans and wild animals, a notification from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated.
The state government hiked ex-gratia for those who suffered serious injuries, minor injuries, crop losses, and property losses resulting from a wild animal attack.
A person attacked by a wild animal that leads to a disability of more than 60% would be compensated with Rs 2.5 lakh. Similarly, instead of receiving Rs 1 lakh as ex-gratia, a person who experiences disability of less than 60% will now receive Rs 1.5 lakh, the notification informed.
A compensation of Rs 5,000 will be given to those with minor injuries, while Rs 10,000 in aid and free hospitalisation would be provided to those who require more extensive care.
In addition to that compensation for livestock losses due to attacks by wild animals has also been increased. An amount of Rs. 37,500 will be compensated for cow and buffalo deaths, and for ox deaths, the compensation is raised from Rs 5,000 to Rs 32,000.
The indemnity for lost cash crops due to animal attacks has been enhanced to Rs 25,000 from Rs 12,000 per acre, while the compensation for lost grain crops has been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 per acre.
Apart from that, the amount of repair for houses that are partially destroyed has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000.
Similarly, ‘Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana’ will be implemented for the owner of a completely destroyed house following a man-animal conflict. The victims will be compensated an amount under the scheme along with an additional Rs 20,000, the notification stated.
