Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has launched an e-detection system to identify vehicles plying without a pollution under control certificate and insurance for strict enforcement of the rules, an official said Sunday.
State Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur said the system was activated from September 1.
Upon detecting vehicles plying in the state without a pollution under control certificate (PUCC) and insurance, an e-challan will be generated against them in accordance with existing rules and electronic enforcement procedure, he said.
Thakur advised vehicle owners to verify the validity of their PUCC and insurance and renew them.
He added that vehicles with challans not disposed of beyond the statutory period will have their registration certificate temporarily frozen on the Parivahan Sewa portal, which blocks all online and offline regional transport office (RTO) services. Accordingly, such vehicles cannot be renewed in the VAHAN-based PUC testing application.
These measures are being implemented to ensure traffic discipline, environmental compliance, third-party protection and road safety, Thakur said.
Recently, the state government reduced the fine amount for violations from a blanket Rs 10,000 to between Rs 1,000 and Rs 6,000 for different types of vehicles.
