Cuttack: Nihar Ranjan Behera, K Bhimmaya, SR Samantray, Babu Rao, Sanjay Das, Intekab Khan and Suresh Behera of Odisha won their respective matches against different opponents in the men’s singles category on the second day of the All India Invitational Carrom Tournament here Friday.
In the junior boys’ category Sangam Nayak and Sidharth Nayak of Odisha advanced to the next round after registering emphatic victories. In the junior girls’ category Sekh Husna Samira of Andhra Pradesh and B Sovika of Tamil Nadu scripted convincing wins in their respective matches. Altogether 390 participants from 17 states are taking part in the tournament.
Finalists spotted
Central Zone A and J&K A entered the final of the All India CRPF Inter-Zone Hockey tournament after winning their respective semifinal matches at the KIIT Ground here Friday.
In the first semifinal Central Zone A pipped North East Zone A by a solitary goal. In the second semifinal J &K A triumphed over South Zone A 3-0.
North East Zone A finished third after losing 2-3 to South Zone A in a keenly-contested third-fourth play-off match.
