Odisha rain alert: IMD warns 21 districts of heavy rain

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to witness heavy rainfall in several areas Friday, with the Regional Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange warning for Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj and yellow warning for 19 other districts.

The weather alert comes amid an active cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal. The system is likely to trigger formation of a fresh low-pressure area along the West Bengal-north Odisha coast August 29, which could lead to further rainfall across state.

Orange warning for Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj

Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places, according to the IMD.

The weather department has issued a yellow warning for Sundaragada, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Debagada, Anugola, Boudhagada, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kataka, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Baleshwar.

The districts under the yellow warning may receive 7 to 11 centimetres of rain at one or two places, along with thunderstorms and lightning.
