Odisha registers 1,703 new Covid-19 cases; 69 more fatalities

Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 1,703 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 9,72,517. The active caseload in the state now stands at 17,411. Out of the 1,703 new infections, 988 were reported from quarantine centres while 715 persons contracted the virus locally. The state had registered 1,629 cases of coronavirus infections Tuesday.

Odisha also reported 69 new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking total tally in the state to 5,703 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department posted Wednesday morning. The state had reported 60 Covid-19 fatalities Tuesday.

Khurda reported highest 14 deaths. It was followed by Sundargarh (10), Angul (nine), Dhenkanal (eight), Jharsuguda (five), Bargarh, Puri and Sambalpur districts (four each), Kandhamal (three), Bolangir (two) and Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Nayagarh and Nuapada districts (one each).

Incidentally, out of 14 fresh fatalities reported from Khurda district, 10 are from the state capital.

Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 386 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 240 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Kendrapara (149), Puri (139), Balasore (88), Jajpur (85), Bhadrak (70), Mayurbhanj (62), Angul (59), Dhenkanal (52), Jagatsinghpur (51), Nayagarh (46), Sundargarh (43), Rayagada (33), Keonjhar (28), Sambalpur (15), Kalahandi (12), Ganjam and Subarnapur (10 each), Deogarh (nine), Kandhamal (eight), Bargarh (six), Jharsuguda and Koraput (five each), Boudh, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur (four each) and Bolangir, Gajapati and Nuapada (three each).

The State Pool reported 71 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.

A total of 1,57,97,630 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 1,969.
