Odisha registers 549 new Covid-19 cases; 70 below 18 years

Bhubaneswar: In the last 24 hours, Odisha has recorded 549 new Covid-19 cases, of which 70 are in the age group of newborn to 18 years, taking total tally in the state to 10,39,818. Active caseload in the state now stands at 4,673.

Odisha also reported two (02) new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking total tally in the state to 8,318 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department posted Wednesday morning. The state had reported four (04) Covid-19 fatalities Tuesday.

Angul and Keonjhar districts reported one (01) death each.

Out of the 549 new infections, 318 were reported from quarantine centres while 231 persons contracted the virus locally. The state had registered 433 cases of coronavirus infections Tuesday.

Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 296 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 50 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Sambalpur (16), Jajpur and Mayurbhanj (13 each), Balasore (12), Nayagarh (10), Jagatsinghpur and Puri (nine each), Deogarh (eight), Kendrapara and Sundargarh (seven each), Dhenkanal and Nuapada (six each), Bhadrak and Kalahandi (four each), Koraput (three), Angul, Bargarh and Jharsuguda (two each) and Bolangir, Rayagada and Subarnapur (one each).

The State Pool reported 67 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.

A total of 2,17,19,159 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 497.
