Odisha registers 644 new Covid-19 cases; 72 below 18 years

Bhubaneswar: In the last 24 hours, Odisha has recorded 644 new Covid-19 cases, of which 72 are in the age group of newborn to 18 years, taking total tally in the state to 10,22,594. Active caseload in the state now stands at 5,713.

Odisha also reported seven (07) new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking total tally in the state to 8,157 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department posted Thursday morning. The state had reported four (04) Covid-19 fatalities Wednesday.

Angul, Cuttack, Jajpur, Khurda, Nabarangpur, Puri and Sundargarh districts reported one (01) death each.

Out of the 644 new infections, 375 were reported from quarantine centres while 269 persons contracted the virus locally. The state had registered 734 cases of coronavirus infections Wednesday.

Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 283 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 77 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Balasore (34), Jagatsinghpur (28), Puri (22), Jajpur (20), Mayurbhanj (15), Angul (14), Sundargarh (13), Kendrapara (11), Sambalpur (10), Bhadrak (seven), Dhenkanal, Ganjam and Nayagarh (six each), Bolangir, Jharsuguda and Malkangiri (five each), Deogarh (four), Rayagada (two) and Gajapati, Kandhamal, Keonjhar and Subarnapur (one each).

The State Pool reported 67 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.

A total of 1,95,17,845 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 445.
