Bhubaneswar: Members of Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association (OSSTA) Wednesday staged a protest at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar and urged the government to fulfil their demands. They warned the government to be prepared for consequences during the upcoming elections if their demands are not met.
One of the protesting teachers said that they demand grants to all the schools eligible for grants, introduction of the Rehabilitation Assistance (RA) scheme and removal of anomalies in the grade pay of Rs 2,800.
Another teacher said that the government is not fulfilling their demands and only providing assurance. She further said “As teachers of 194 category schools, we are not getting any salaries for the last 30 years.” She went on to say that some teachers have even retired or died without getting remunerations.
She further said that the government has been delaying the fulfilment of their demands since 2017.
Another agitating teacher warned that if the government does not fulfil their demands, then they will intensify their protest. “We will show our unity and it will reflect during the elections,” he added.
A teacher said, “The government had taken 130 days to consider our demands, but nothing was done.” Therefore they are protesting again, he added.
