Bhubaneswar: At least three persons, including two women, died and five other were injured in incidents of lightning strikes in Odisha’s Sundaragada and Mayurbhanj districts Tuesday, police said.
While two women died in lightning strikes in Sundaragada’s Talsara police station area, one man was killed at a village under Rasgovindpur police station limits in Mayurbhanj, they said.
The deceased have been identified as Champa Tirkey, Susheela Tirkey and Shivshaknar Murmu.
Three persons were injured in lightning strikes as rain and thunderstorms lashed Balishankara under Talsara areas around 1.30 pm, police said.
In Mayurbhanj, two more persons were injured in lightning strikes, and they were identified as Supai Hansda (24) and Biju Tudu (25), they said.
All the injured were undergoing treatment at hospitals.
Meanwhile, the IMD forecast moderate thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph across the state from August 11-15.
