Odisha weather April 20: These districts could turn into virtual cauldron as IMD flags Orange Warning

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Thursday issued an Orange Warning (be prepared) for heatwave conditions in several districts of Odisha.

Upto 8:30 AM of April 21: As per the Orange Warning, heatwave condition is very likely to occur at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Cuttack and Khurda districts.

The IMD bulletin advised the farmers in these districts to continue irrigation activities in sugarcane, summer maize, pulses and other crop and vegetables.

In the same timeframe, IMD also issued a Yellow Warning for heatwave condition that is very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur and Boudh districts.

Apart from that, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Rayagada, Gajapati, Malkangiri and Kandhamal districts. Dry weather is likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.

From 8:30 AM of April 21 to 8:30 AM of April 22: The weather agency issued a Yellow Warning (be updated) for heatwave conditions in several districts of the state.

As per the Yellow Warning, heatwave condition is very likely to occur at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Boudh districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Puri districts. Dry weather is likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.

From 8:30 AM of April 22 to 8:30 AM of April 23: The weather agency issued a Yellow Warning (be updated) for several districts in the state.

As per the Yellow Warning, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Nabarangpur, Sundargarh, Rayagada and Koraput districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur in a few places over the districts of North Odisha, South Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the remaining districts in the state.

No large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) over next 36 hours and a gradual fall by 2 to 4 degree Celsius over the subsequent two days is forecasted.

The maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to be 40 degree Celsius or more. The mercury may breach the above-normal temperature mark by 3-5 degree Celsius at a few places in Odisha.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 43 degree Celsius and 26 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 44.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Baripada and the lowest minimum temperature of 21.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Phulbani, the bulletin informed.
