Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall is likely in several districts across Odisha over the next week, with the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department issuing yellow warnings.
The weather office Monday said that an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas persists and extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestward with height. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region around August 12.
Until 8.30 am of Tuesday, a yellow warning has been issued for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.
From 8.30 am of Tuesday to 8.30 am of Wednesday, heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.
According to IMD, the monsoon trough at mean sea level now runs through Bikaner, Datia, the centre of the low-pressure area over north Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas, Daltonganj and Digha before extending southeastward into the east-central Bay of Bengal. It extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
