Bhubaneswar: Odisha could witness rainfall during the Durga Puja festivities as a low-pressure system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal around mid-October, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD’s extended-range outlook for cyclogenesis over the North Indian Ocean indicates that an upper-air cyclonic circulation may emerge over the North Andaman Sea around October 12. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Andaman Sea around October 13.
The weather system has a low probability, estimated at 1 to 33 per cent, of intensifying into a depression over the central parts of the South Bay of Bengal and adjoining central Bay of Bengal around October 15.
With Durga Puja scheduled to begin in the state on October 16, the possible development has raised the prospect of unsettled weather during the festive period. However, the forecast remains at an early stage, and its eventual track, intensity and proximity to the Odisha coast are yet to be determined.
