Odisha weather May 24: State likely to reel under heat amid Yellow Warning for thunderstorm

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Wednesday issued a Yellow Warning for several districts of Odisha.

Upto 8.30 AM of May 25: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Boudh, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, the IMD bulletin stated.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and at one or two places over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of May 25 to 8.30 AM of May 26: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur and Bhadrak districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Angul. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.

The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) in Odisha over the next five days. It is likely to be 42 degree Celsius or more at a few places over the next three days in some districts of interior Odisha such as Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Jharsuguda and Bargarh.

Consequently, hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11am-3 pm.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, rain or thundershower towards the afternoon or evening is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 41 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 43.3 degree Celsius was recorded at Bolangir while the lowest minimum temperature of 23.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Phulbani, the bulletin informed.
