Weather alert: Thunderstorm likely to bring respite from heat in 19 Odisha districts, says IMD

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Tuesday issued a Yellow Warning for several districts of Odisha.

Upto 8.30 AM of June 7: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Gajapati, Ganjam and Kandhamal districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Dhenkanal districts, the IMD bulletin stated.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal and at one or two places over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of June 7 to 8.30 AM of June 8: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul and Dhenkanal districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha,

The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum (day temperature) over the next five days. It is likely to be 42 degree Celsius or more at one or two places in the districts of interior Odisha over next five days.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rain or thundershower is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 41 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 44 degree Celsius was recorded at Boudh while the lowest minimum temperature of 22.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Phulbani, the bulletin informed.
