post news network, Bhubaneswar, May 30: Scores of classical dance lovers from the city gathered to enjoy Debasmruti, an Odissi dance festival, organised by the Tridhara, a dance institute, in remembrance of Guru Debaprasad Das at the Rabindra Mandap, Saturday.
Around 50 students of the institute, including dancers from countries outside India, who participated in a one-month workshop, organised by the institute, performed solo, duet and group dance in the festival, in keeping with the dance style of Guru Debaprasad. Their performances captivated everyone present.
A solo dance performance ‘Nabarasa’, based on Raga Malika and Tala Malika, by the eldest daughter of Guru Debaprasad, Bipanchi Das, mesmerised the audience.
Several other dance performances such as Gananayak, Raga Bageshri and Ektali based Muhanmuhin, Durga Tandav, Dasavatar, etc. were the other highlights of the event.
Speaking to Orissa Post, noted Odissi dancer Guru Gajendra Panda, festival director, said, “Late Debaprasad Das was one of the founding fathers of Odissi dance who had taken Odissi to all the continents through his disciple late Indrani Rahman. Guru Debaprasad had founded the Tridhara dance organisation three decades ago. Many students from our institute are doing well in this field. We are trying to keep his dance style alive through the institute”.
Several dignitaries including the noted singer and music director, Prafulla Kumar Kar, were present on the occasion.
