Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) has revised the prices of its milk variants, with the new rates set to come into effect from October 4. According to an office order issued October 1, the maximum retail price (MRP) of toned milk has been fixed at Rs 29 for a 500-ml pouch, while premium milk will cost Rs 30 for the same quantity.
Gold milk will be available at Rs 31 per 500 ml and Gold Plus at Rs 33 per 500 ml. The revised MRP for toned milk (3.0% fat and 8.5% SNF) is Rs 58 per litre, while premium milk (3.5% fat and 8.5% SNF) will cost Rs 60 per litre. Gold milk (4.0% fat and 8.5% SNF) has been priced at Rs 62 per litre, and Gold Plus (4.5% fat and 8.5% SNF) at Rs 66 per litre. The federation has also revised the retailer purchase rates for the different milk variants. Under the revised promotional scheme, retailers will receive one free 500-ml pouch of toned milk for every 20 litres sold. For premium milk, two free 500-ml pouches will be provided for every 30 litres purchased. Retailers purchasing less than 30 litres of premium milk will continue to receive one free 500-ml pouch for every 20 litres. For Gold Plus milk, the federation will provide one free 500-ml pouch for every 10 litres sold.
No free-pouch scheme will be available for Gold milk. The existing provision for replacing leaky or defective milk pouches will continue across all variants. In addition, retailers will receive one free 500 ml toned milk pouch for every 50 litres of milk sold towards leaky-pouch replacement. The increase is likely to have a cascading effect on household budgets when consumers are already facing higher prices of several essential commodities. The milk price revision means households that regularly buy OMFED milk will have to spend a little more on their daily milk requirements.
Meanwhile, OMFED is also working to introduce QR codes on its dairy products to help consumers verify product details and authenticity. The QR codes will provide information such as the date and place of production, usable period and instructions for use. The facility has already been introduced for ghee, while QR codes are expected to be added to paneer, curd and other products
