On a journey to save lives on roads

Bhubaneswar, July 25: Come July and the bad weather compels you to put off your bike trips. Most bikers bury their desire to go vroom on the slippery roads as rain pitterpatters on the window pane. But, a group of 30 bikers in the city are proving this notion wrong. For them, warm and dry weather is not the only season for long road trips on motorcycles. With the right kit, attitude and skills, you can have an enjoyable ride even during the monsoons—they believe. These young bikers participated in a road trip from Cuttack to Paradeep to promote road safety . They are members of the biking community, Revolution Bikers. They are covering 140Kms on their 150cc motorcycles. They kicked off their journey Phulnakhara area recently. “The road trip was organised to encourage people towards safe driving,” said Subhanm Rout, a first year computer science student. Rout had founded the team a year back. “Accidents often take place in the city as riders don’t take precautionary measures, like wearing helmet; violate the traffic rules, and indulge in reckless riding,” said another member, Jena. “We also wanted to bring all the bikers of the city together for this journey to the nearby areas. We will cherish this ride in the times to come. Till now, we have organised more than nine trips to the Naraj in Cuttack, Chilika in Puri, Ansupa lake in Chandikhol, etc. We checked all the measures
of safe riding before starting the journey. We wore helmets and kept the license with ourselves,” Rout said. The riders believed that this journey will help them in learning basic human values like adjustment, love, respect and strengthen their bond. “We are planning to arrange another tour, covering the entire state on Independence Day (August 15), where we will all ride together for solitude and celebrate our Independence,” Jena said.
