One dead, seven injured in Sundargarh road mishap

Rourkela: One person died and seven others sustained critical injuries after an SUV dashed against a tree at Subdega area under Talsara police limits in Sundargarh district Sunday morning.

According to an eyewitness, at least seven persons of a family from Laida village under Kuchinda block in Sambalpur district were going to Ghogar – a gorge on the River Ib as well as a picnic spot – under Balisankara tehsil limits in Sundargarh district.

Driver of the SUV lost control over the vehicle following which it skidded off the road. The vehicle collided with a roadside tree. The driver died on the spot, the eyewitness added.

Locals rescued the injured and sent them to the primary health centre at Subdega area and the injured were provided first aid.

Doctors attending the injured referred them to Sundargarh district headquarters hospital after their health condition deteriorated.

On being informed, Talsara police immediately reached the spot. Police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe. Body of the deceased was sent for postmortem.
