Baliapal: A man died and at least five others were injured in a group clash over encroachment of a school land at Katramahal village of Nuagaon panchayat under Baliapal police limits in Balasore district Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Ramchandra Giri, the headman of the village.
According to a report, Bhanu Dalai had encroached upon a patch of land of the primary school in Katramahal village.
Headman Ramchandra and five villagers went to Bhanu and asked about the land encroached by him Monday morning.
Exasperated at this, Bhanu, son Shantanu and other family members attacked the six with sharp weapons, leaving Ramchandra dead on the spot and injured five others.
Later, villagers rescued the injured ones and rushed them to Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH).
Baliapal police have detained Bhanu and Sushant and launched an investigation.
