Nabarangpur: A one-year-old boy was seriously injured after a stray dog attacked him while he was sleeping at his home in Sadar village under Kodiga on police limits in Nabarangpur district, officials said.
The dog entered the house and attacked the child, biting him on the face and causing serious injuries.
The child’s parents, Raju Dalai and his wife, had gone to work at their small tiffin shop and left the boy in the care of his aunt.
She rushed to the child after hearing him cry and tried to drive away the dog, but the animal also attacked her.
Neighbours arrived shortly afterwards, rescued the child and informed his parents. The boy was initially taken to the Kodigaon hospital and later shifted to the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital.
He was subsequently referred to a hospital in Koraput for advanced treatment.
The child was reported to be in critical condition and undergoing treatment in Koraput, according to the family.
