Bhubaneswar, August 22: Out of 32,00,353 job aspirants registered in different employment exchanges in the state, employment could be provided to only 44,100 candidates, which is only 1.37 per cent of the total aspirants.
This fact was revealed in a written statement in the Assembly Saturday by employment, technical education and training (ETET) minister Sanjay Das Burama.
According to his statement, 23,20,597 male and 8,79,756 female candidates had registered their names in the employment exchanges. Only 33,096 male and 11,004 female aspirants were provided employment by the state government, he said.
Out of 1,64,577 students registered in 2000, only 2,421 have got employment while 586 of 2,40,963 registered students were employed in 2006, the minister added.
The statement shows that the employment figures have remained very poor an all the years between 2000 and 2014. Last year, 2,27,768 students, including 16,322 post-graduate degree holders, registered with the exchanges. But, the state government succeeded in providing employment to just 1,144 aspirants.
The employment figures for the current year are a little bit encouraging as 1,126 of 84,215 aspirants were employed so far.
According to sources, the state government has abolished 44,197 posts in the past 15 years, and over 1,64,000 government posts are lying vacant in different departments currently.
