Bhubaneswar, May 6: The state government Wednesday postponed the last date for applying for admission to the two-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Master of Education (M.Ed) courses from May 7 to June 5.
It has simultaneously postponed the entrance examination date from May 26 to June 21.
Orissa POST reported May 2 about the illogical B.Ed, M.Ed admission schedule set by the Teacher Education and State Council of Education Research and Training (TE & SCERT).
The application process for B.Ed courses had begun April 23, with the last day of application for admission being May 7, as per the earlier schedule. The entrance examination was to be held May 26. The illogical schedule had resulted in many candidates not being able to apply for the courses.
However, the state government, at a high-level meeting Wednesday, decided to postpone the admission process to the Bachelor of Hindi Education, Diploma in Elementary Education, Master in Philosophy along with B.Ed and M.Ed.
The meeting Wednesday, which was attended by school and mass education minister Debi Prasad Mishra and higher education minister Pradeep Panigrahi, as well as some officials, decided that as many universities and colleges have not yet published their results, aspiring teachers will be unable to apply for the courses and thus decided to extend the dates of the admission process.
A candidate with a bachelor’s degree in arts or science with 50 per cent marks in aggregate is eligible to apply for the B.Ed course. However, the state has said that candidates awaiting their final results will be eligible to apply.
The change of scheduled of the admission process has brought cheer to candidates. “The earlier schedule was too tight and illogical. The time was too short either for applying for the courses or preparing for the entrance examination. The extended time would definitely help us a lot,” said an aspirant, Pramod Maharana.
