Orissa colts thrash hapless Chhattisgarh

Bhubaneswar: Orissa registered a thumping 10-0 victory over Chhattisgarh in a match of the Sub-Junior National Boys’ Football Championship at Chinsurah in West Bengal, Saturday.

Orissa scored six goals in the first period while struck four times in the second half of the lopsided encounter. Bhagrai Murmu, Purusottam Kerketta, Ashanta Kerketta and Sagar Majhi were on target for Orissa.

Orissa put pressure on Chhattisgarh from the start as Bhagrai opened the scoring as early as in the fifth minute. Purusottam then doubled the lead in the 15th minute tapping in a pass inside the box. Ashanta made the score 3-0 three minutes later when he volleyed a cross from the left flank into the net.

Ashanta again came into the act in the 24th minute, when he scored the fourth goal, his second of the match, with a clean finish from the edge of the box. Purusottam struck his second and his side’s fifth goal a minute later. He then completed his hat-trick with a 33rd-minute strike as Orissa were leading 6-0 at the break.

After the change of ends, Orissa continued to toy with the Chhattisgarh defence as the goal fest continued. Ashanta completed his hat-trick seven minutes into the second period. Sagar then joined the scorers’ list when he found the back of the net in the 67th minute.

Purusottam then completed his tally of four goals, when he hit the target in the 74th minute. Sagar then completed the rout, scoring the 10th goal, his second of the match in the last minute before the final hooter.

Orissa will next face Jharkhand, August 30.

Drab draw

Ardor Football Academy (AFA) played out a goalless draw with Bhubaneswar Friends Club (BFC) on the inaugural match of the Gati Krushna Memorial Football League (Division-B) at the Unit-I playground here, Saturday.
