Orissa eves beat listless Tripura

Cuttack, Feb 4: Orissa defeated Tripura by 60 runs in a match of the women’s U-23 Zonal League ODI tournament at the Nimpur Ground here Thursday.
Opting to bat first, the hosts scored 173 runs in the stipulated 50 overs with Pragyan Mohanty (56, 92b, 7×4) emerging as the highest scorer. Sunita Murmu (40, 81b, 3×4) supported her well. Rita Debbarma (4/39) bowled well for Tripura.
In reply, the visitors were never in the hunt and were bowled out for 113 runs. Rita (30, 75b, 3×4) followed up her good bowling performance with a gritty batting show, but lacked support. Sushree Pradhan (4/20) was the most successful bowler for Orissa.
In another match at the Ravenshaw University Ground Jharkhand thrashed Assam by eight wickets.

Match drawn
Bihar and Bengal played out a 1-1 draw in the inaugural match of the Sub-Junior Boys’ National Football Championships for East Zone qualifying round at the Barabati Stadium here Thursday.

Medals galore
Orissa bagged nine medals including five gold and four silver in the VIIIth National Mini- Archery Championships, which concluded Thursday at Vishakhapatnam. On the concluding day, the visitors emerged champions in the boys’ team event.

The AIFF appointed Thursday, Shuvendu Panda of Orissa as a spotter for the ongoing Sub-Junior National Football Championships here. Shuvendu is an AFC-B license coach.
