Cuttack, Jan 8: Orissa eves entered the semifinals of the National Senior Women’s football championships beating Madhya Pradesh 1-0 in their final round Group-A match at Jabalpur, Friday.
In-form Pyari Xaxa scored the all important goal of the match in the 25th minute. Orissa will meet their nemesis Manipur in the semifinal match Monday.
KISS, Holipur in final
KISS and Giridharijew Vidyamandir, Holipur topped their respective groups to qualify for the final of the VIth Rajat Memorial Inter-School Hockey Tournament at the Orissa Police Ground in Cuttack, Friday.
In Group A, Holipur thrashed Bidanasi High School 7-0, spanked DAV Chandrasekharpur 4-0 and Orissa Police High School 5-0.
In Group B, KISS triumphed over Dhenkanal High School 7-1, edged past Garasuni School 5-4 and drubbed CSPur 4-0. Both teams topped their respective pools with an all-win record.
Semifinalists spotted
Shilpi S Das, Ameek Kiran Baath, Annam Almas and Rutuparna Choudhury entered the semifinals in the women’s singles category of the Utkal Orissa Open Tennis Tournament after beating their respective opponents in the quarterfinals here Friday.
Top seed Shilpi thrashed seventh seed Ayesha Swain 7-0 and fourth seed Ameek made mincemeat of Abhipsa Pal 7-0. Third seed Anaam triumphed over Sapan Sahoo 7-2 and second seed Rutuparna drubbed Vijaya Baath 7-0.
