Bhubaneswar, May 31: Hockey Orissa beat Hockey Haryana 5-3 in the third-fourth playoff game to finish third in the Vth National Sub-Junior (Division-A) Hockey Championships at Ranchi, Sunday.
After the semifinal debacle, Orissa players revived their game and gave a stiff challenge to the opposition. After 31 minutes of deadlock, Asim Kanchan Barla opened the account for Orissa and the team maintained the 1-0 lead till the breather.
The second half witnessed hockey at its aggressive best. Elima Minz doubled the lead in the 40th minute. Asim kanchan Barla (42) and Priyanka Kujur (56th) struck in quiet succession to increase Orissa’s lead to 4-0. Then Haryana came back strongly by scoring in the 52nd and 56th minutes respectively. But Priyanka Ekka of Orissa struck in the 64th minute virtually to seal the fate of the match. Haryana gave another goal, but that was only to reduce the margin.
