Orissa eves hammer Rajasthan

Bhubaneswar: Orissa registered a comprehensive 14-0 win over Rajasthan in their match of the National Sub-Junior Girls’ Football Championships in Manipur, Thursday.

Orissa dominated the match from the scratch with Manisha Nayak (37th, 45th, 77th, 83rd and 87th minutes) scoring five goals including a hat-trick. Sarita Soren (eighth, 31st, 73rd) also registered a hat-trick against her name.

The other goal scorers were Subhasmita Subhadarshini Das (37th, 42nd), Gayatri Behera (84th, 86th) and Sumitra Hembram (15th). Rajasthan conceded an own goal as well.

Team announced

Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) announced a 15-member state team Thursday, for the U-19 Women’s Inter-State ODI East Zone league which will be played at Ranchi, November 3-10. Sangeeta Khadia has been appointed as the skipper of the team.

The team: Sangeeta Khadia (C), Poonam Nayak, Kajal Jena, Suchitra Roy, Barsharani Singh, Indrani Chhatria, Saraswati Hembram, Subhra Nirjharini Swain, BLS Baishnabee, Rashmita Chinnara, Rajeswari Jena, Taranna Pradhan, Kalpana Nayak, Sweet Behera and GM Alakananda. Coach: Itishree Pattnaik.

8 from Orissa

Eight boxers from Orissa have been selected in the state team Thursday for the 46th Junior National Boxing Championship at Chennai, October 28-November 1. The team will depart for Chennai from Berhampur, Friday.

The squad: Durga Prakash Das, Brahma Narayan Sahu, Soumya Ranjan Pandit,  Prakash Das, Rakesh Das, Jagannath Patra, Satyaranjan Nayak, Arjit Mohapatra; Coach:  Ashok Kumar Sethi; Manager: T Krishna Patro.
