Cuttack, Jan 29: The Orissa eves continued their splendid run of form and won their third quarterfinal league match of the National Sub-Junior Girls’ Football Championships against Tamil Nadu convincingly at the Barabati Stadium here Friday.
The hosts rode on a hat-trick by Malati Naik to drub the visitors 7-2. Malati scored in the fourth, 45th and 59th minutes respectively. Deepa Naik (ninth, 53rd) and Bannya Kabiraj (28th, 56th) scored a brace each. NV Sandhiya (21st) and Pavithra (60th) struck once each for Tamil Nadu but that did not change the complexion of the game.
Honours even
Honours were shared between Bhubaneswar-A and Cuttack-A on day one of their three-day final of the Sumit Bose Memorial OCA U-16 Inter-District Cricket tourney at the Bidanasi Ground here Friday. In reply to the first innings score of 213 by BBSR-A, Cuttack-A were 25/2 at stumps on a pitch offering help to the bowlers.
Bhubaneswar-A opted to bat first and notched up the respectable total with contributions from Ansuman Sinha (42), and Suvam Satrujit (40). For Cuttack-A, Spandan Sabat (3/29) and Gyana Ranjan Acharya (3/49) bowled well.

Rowers bag two gold medals
Orissa bagged two gold medals in the 34th National Senior National Rowing Championships at Hyderabad, Friday. Sanjukta Dung Dung won the yellow metal in the women’s 2000 metres scull event. In coxless fours, Manjula Xess, Sanjukta, Kamala Lakra and Pricilla Baxla took the top honours.
Debashis loses
Top seed Debashis Das had a bad day in office as he suffered a shock defeat against Sankalan Bharati in the second round of the Siddha Chess for Youth at Kolkata, Friday. But Swayams Mishra won a minor piece defence against Akash Tiwari in a queen’s Indian defence.
