Orissa eves thrash hapless Telangana

Cuttack, Jan 25: Orissa eves registered a thumping 6-0 victory over Telangana in the Super League stage quarterfinal match of the National Sub-Junior Women’s Football Championships at the Satyabrata Stadium here Monday.
Sarita Soreng (fifth and 71st minutes) and Bannya Kabiraj (52nd and 81st minutes) scored a brace each. Nikita Bishi (45th) and Deepa Nayak (61st) scored once each to make it an emphatic margin of victory for Orissa.
The Orissa eves were up and running early. But poor coordination in front of the opposition goal meant that they had to wait 40 more minutes to get their second of the match after Sarita had opened the account early on in the game. In the second half, the floodgates opened as the hosts slammed four more goals.
In another match, Manipur spanked Tamil Nadu 4-0. O Lamnganbi (67th), Y Thailand (77th), Th Kritina (80th) and Y Pakpi (89th) scored a goal each for the winning side.
Manas wins title
Manas Ranjan Parida of Bhubaneswar emerged champion in the State Open Chess Championship, which concluded at the Secretariat Recreation Club at Bhubaneswar, Monday.
Manas took the top honours with 8.5 points. Bira Kishore of Behera of Puri emerged runner-up with 7.5 points and Prabhat Kumar Ojha of Bhubaneswar finished third with seven points.
Biswajit triumphs
Biswajit Ojha of Khurda clinched the title in the Mina Patra Memorial All Orissa Open chess tournament, which concluded at Puri, Monday.
Biswajit finished at the top with 7.5 points. Manoj Kumar Panigrahi of Puri bagged the same number of points, but had to be satisfied as runner-up after tie-breaker was implemented.
