Cuttack, May 8: Riding on a brilliant hat-trick by Bannya Kabiraj, hosts Orissa spanked Madhya Pradesh 7-0 in a match of the sub-junior girls’ National Football Championship at the Barabati Stadium here, Friday.
Orissa dominated the match completely and thoroughly outplayed their opponents. They had the major possession of ball in the first half and created many opportunities also. But unfortunately they were able to score only once. Subhadra Nayak opened the account in the 31st minute.
After change of ends, Orissa players were right on the money and scored six more goals. The scorching sun also affected the performance of the MP eves who seemed to have run out of steam. Taking full advantage of this situation Bannya scored in the 53rd, 85th and 90th minutes respectively. Shanti Murmu (56th), A Kangadi (76th) and Eva Panna (92nd) struck once each to complete the rout.
Earlier in the inaugural match, Y Thailand Devi scored five goals, including a hat-trick to help mighty Manipur drub Uttar Pradesh 10-0. She scored in the second, 28th, 31st, 55th and 76th minutes respectively. Sanathokpi Devi (21st, 78th) and Th. Babysana (41st, 57th) scored a brace each, while W Kanchan Devi (47th) found the back of the net once.
In the third match played at the Satyabrata Stadium, Jharkhand and Telangana played out a thrilling 2-2 draw. Telangana drew first blood through Y Poojitha in the 12th minute. Jharkhand restored parity through S Kumari in the 30th minute. After change of ends, Kumari scored her second goal in the 69th minute to put Jharkhand ahead. However with two minutes Poojitha restored parity.
