Orissa karatekas continue dominance

Bhubaneswar: Orissa karatekas continued their dominant show as they bagged nine medals on the second day of the VIIIth All India Open Karate Championships at the Utkal Karate School here Saturday. They now have 20 medals in their kitty after clinching 11 medals on the opening day.

On the second day of the event, Sri Kumbhar of the state clinched a gold medal in the U-13 male kata pool IV event, while Gitshree Prusty bagged the yellow metal in the U-15 female kata event. Iranjib Kanh emerged champion in the men’s white belt kata pool I event and Swi Mohapatra clinched the title in the U-15 female kata event.

In the men’s while belt kumite, Hrusikesh Nayak emerged victorious, while in the U-13 male kata pool I event Laxman Kishan triumphed. Subhakanta Biswal, Yasa Samata and Akshita Sarai emerged champions in the 11-years above 35 kg male kumite, U-13 female kata pool II and U-13 female kata pool I events respectively.
